Blushes and Lipsticks and Glosses, Oh My!

written by Alice Hause

Tis the season for a little extra color, sparkle, and shine. Bring on the sequin skirt, dust off the burgundy velvet blazer, add the feathers and the bells. But don’t stop there. It's also the perfect time for your favorite blushes, lipsticks, and glosses to take center stage. Not that I need an excuse. I’m an unabashed blush girl. My makeup drawer is a potpourri of cream blushes, powder blushes, stains, and anything else that can be called blush-adjacent. And cheek color calls for lip color. Like peanut butter and jelly, or gin and tonic. Whether it's a dewy stain, a low-key-hydrating balm, or a holiday-glam cheek and lip, these products ensure that more than the halls are perfectly decked.

Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Blush

This is an all-time favorite. I always have one in reserve and take it with me when I travel. It’s ultra-light, moisturizing, and infused with micro-droplets pigments that blend seamlessly for a natural-looking flushed effect that’s easily buildable for those occasions you want that extra color. Composed of 75% water, this blush melts into your skin upon contact and natural tamarind seed extract helps hydrate skin.

Patrick Ta Double-Take Creme and Blush Duo

My most recent blush purchase and I loved it immediately. This blush contains two complementary shades - one powder, one cream. It melts into the skin for a beautiful radiant glow. The true brilliance of this duo is that it’s designed to layer on, powder first and cream second for a bold, multi-dimensional finish. You can also use either formula on its own.

Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick

The creamy, multi-purpose formula is infused with hydrating ingredients for seamless blend-ability for that flushed-from-within effect. Its creamy texture makes it easy to apply and blend with your fingers on both cheeks and lips, and the unique packaging design and magnetic lid make it purse-safe.

Merit Flush Balm

A beauty industry favorite. The flush balm’s microfine pigment powders add color without covering up your natural skin texture. It goes on sheer and soft but is easily blend-able.  You can use it on your cheeks, lips, even your eyelids. It has skin-nourishing ingredients that leave a subtle glow and make your skin feel moisturized.  It's small and lightweight making it the perfect on-the-go product.

Tom Ford Lip Color Lipstick

Tom Ford lipsticks are forever favorites. They’re richly pigmented and the colors (along with the packaging) are gorgeous. I use Casablanca for everyday and Scarlet Rouge (a fabulous red) for going out. The moisturizing and conditioning ingredients help the lipstick to glide on smoothly while condition your lips. The color is long-lasting and fades like a stain, not patchy or uneven.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk Lipstick

This iconic nude-pink lipstick has earned a spot in the lipstick hall of fame. A matte lipstick with a long-lasting, buildable, hydrating formula to create lips that appear wider and fuller. Our founder, Nada and our style contributor, Tricia (both in their fifties) call Pillowtalk their tried-and-true lipstick. Nada loves it so much she keeps a travel-size one in her purse and makeup bag.

Chanel Rouge Coco Baum

A moisture-rich balm that offers buildable color with just a few swipes. Its formula allows for a sheer wash of color after one coat to lipstick-like intensity after three coats. This balm also contains a deeply hydrating oil that features restorative and antioxidant properties for better-looking lips day after day. I carry with me wherever I go.

Tower 28 Beauty ShineOn Lip Jelly Hydrating Lip Gloss

This is a hall of fame product at our house. It provides just the right amount of shine and color with the soothing comfort of a nurturing balm. All of this long-lasting goodness without any of the heaviness or stickiness that you find in so many glosses. This jelly formula is also made with a unique blend of 5 nourishing oils to soothe and protect lips.

Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm

A beauty industry favorite. Packed with ultra-hydrating seed butters, these natural moisturizers soothe, heal and condition parched lips. They’re creamy, and never-greasy or sticky. The tinted versions give that perfect subtle pop of color. These balms can be worn alone or with a lip liner or lipstick for an added bit of shine. The tube has an angled applicator for easy on-the-go applications.

Iris & Romeo Power Peptide Lip Balm

This 3-in-1 rich, buttery lip balm is also a plumping and hydrating treatment with sheer, buildable color. Made with peptides that increase lip volume and firmness, while deeply hydrating.  Our operations and events manager Trish, (who just turned forty), loves the nude color and wears it on its own or layered with other lipsticks.
